NYR is a British company. It was launched in 1981 off the forecourt in Neal’s Yard, Covent Garden, London.
Where do NYR get their ingredients from?
NYR ethnically source some of their ingredients from places such as Kenya, Somalia and Morocco. NYR was the first company to use ‘FairWild’ certified organic Frankincense, meaning that the women of the Samburu Tribe in Kenya who hand pick the Frankincense are paid for their work.
NYR’s main facility is their eco-factory in Dorset, where products are developed and bottled. In Lambourn, Berkshire, is NYR’s ‘Sheepdrove Organic Farm’ and ‘Eco Centre’, where a variety of herbs are grown and harvested on 2,400 acres of organic homeland.
Are NYR 100% Organic?
Unfortunately it is not currently possible to be 100% organic. This is because for an ingredient to be classed as ‘organic’, it has to relate to something that is grown, meaning that water, clay and minerals can never be categorised as ‘organic’. However it is guaranteed that NYR only use natural, organic ingredients within every product. That is why NYR like to shout about what they do not contain – any chemicals or nasties which can affect our health.
Therefore NYR take pride in displaying the total organic content of each product, as if there is an ingredient that is not 100% safe to us, and the whole planet, NYR will not use it.
Even the famous blue bottles are fully recyclable and are specifically blue to filter 97% UV lights that can affect the product inside! Paper/card used is fully recyclable and sustainable, and NYR print with vegetable based ink!
So why NYR?
NYR are the UK’s first certified organic health and beauty company, and the first UK company to produce Soil Association certified products. They are also the UK’s first Carbon Neutral high street retailor, and continue to gain awards for their products.
NYR do not test on animals, however, it is illegal to test such cosmetics in the EU.
Not to mention the ingredients are organic and natural where possible - and the majority vegan friendly!
In 2013, three years after NYR launched ‘Help Save the Bees’ campaign and ‘Bee Lovely’ product range, the EU pass the world’s first continent-wide ban of neonic insecticides which are the key cause for the dramatic decline of the bee populations around the world. This EU ban is for two years pending safety regulations. Each time you purchase from the ‘Bee Lovely’ product range, 5% of sales goes towards this campaign to continue to support the bee.
